After breakfast we continue South and head to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli has a hot, dry climate with average rainfall of 350-400 mm per year. In the park there are however large wetland areas which are fed not only by the rain but also by the melting ice and snow from the 5895m high towering Kilimanjaro above. During the rainy season a large soda lake is formed. Amboseli derives its name from Maa Language spoken by the Maasai People. They call it Em Posel which means “salty dust “.
We’ll have lunch at Amboseli Serena Lodge then go afternoon game drives. Our game drives, reveal the fascinating fauna and flora of the park. The park is famous for large herds of elephants however there are numerous grass-eating animals such as wild buffaloes, gnus, zebras, impalas, giraffes, gazelles and gerenuks. Carnivores are there as well; lions, cheetahs, jackals and spotted hyenas. We might also witness a beautiful sunset with the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Amboseli Serena Lodge.

After breakfast, we drive to the Chyulu Hills park gate and embark on a journey up the scenic hills which rise up to 2188m. Being a National Park, the area is teeming with wildlife therefore an armed ranger provides security. The whole of the Chyulu Hills Mountain Range spans over 60km from one end to the other and offers stunning views of gentle rolling hills with grove of trees in the intersections between the hills. Numerous lava tube caves crisscross the depth of the Chyulu Hills and are locally known as the Kisulu caves. With 19.5km length the caves are amongst some of the longest in the world. We explore only the first section which is 2 km long. After this adventure we drive another 10 km to our picnic lunch point. After lunch we use the numerous animal trails crisscrossing the open undulating landscape, which provide convenient routes to hike to the ridge of the mountain range (1900m) where our fly camp is already set. Spectacular views of Kilimanjaro and the Amboseli plains await us. As the sun sets we enjoy our dinner which has been well prepared by the camp cook.

This day we drive to Tsavo West National park for game viewing. Once we arrive at the lodge within the park, lunch will be served and we’ll head out on an afternoon game drive to become familiar with the different terrain offered by Tsavo. Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness. The savannah ecosystem comprises of open grasslands, scrublands, and Acacia woodlands, belts of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges including the Poacher's Lookout where visitors can see the teeming herds in the plains below. It is known for bird life and for its large mammal’s e.g. black rhino, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, hippo and Masai lion. There are also other smaller animals that can be spotted in the park, such as the bush baby, hartebeest, lesser kudu and Maasai giraffe.
During the rainy season, Tsavo West National Park is showered with white and pink ipomea and acacia trees of white and pink blossom. On a clear day, the park also offers lovely views of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro.

After breakfast, we leave the Lodge and visit the Mzima Springs. The spectacle Mzima Springs is the sight of fifty million gallons of crystal clear water gushing out of from the under parched lava rocks, forming the most welcoming and lovely scene in Africa. Here we may see animals quenching their thirst, from elephants, some hippos in the water and some monkeys swinging from the acacia trees. We head back to the lodge for lunch and then go out for afternoon game drives. Overnight stay will be again in Severin Safari Camp, where we’ll return after our rewarding game viewing.

Wake up to an early morning breakfast then we drive to Taita hills and Lumo community wildlife sanctuary. This habitat varies from woodland to riverine forest to open acacia grasslands. The sanctuary is rich with wildlife and more than 300 residents and migrant species of birds. The grasslands provide an ideal opportunity to view and photograph the diverse array of wildlife within the sanctuary. The water holes below provide even a wonderful opportunity to view animals at close proximity within the comfort and confines of the lodges. Night game drives are arranged as options. All meals and overnight at Sarova Saltlick.

After breakfast we head down south to Shimba Hills National Reserve arriving in time for lunch at Shimba Hills Lodge. After lunch we embark on afternoon game drives enroute Diani. Shimba Hills Reserve is rich in flora and fauna and hosts the highest density of African elephant in Kenya. Other animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, elephant shrew, bushy tailed mongoose and other small mammals like fruit bats. The forest is an important bird area and is endowed with forest birdlife while the grasslands hold localized species such as red-necked-Spur fowl, Croaking Cisticola and Zanzibar Red Bishop. We continue to our hotel in Diani, Bahari Dhow Beach Villas for check in.

These two days we have time to relax on the palm-fringed, white sandy beaches or take part in some resort activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing, dhow cruise. Dinner and overnight at Bahari Dhow Villas.

After a leisure breakfast, we are transferred to Mombasa airport for our international flight marking the end of our Southern Kenya safari.
