The Londorossi Route departs from the far West side of Mount Kilimanjaro. Getting to Londorossi Gate (2,100 meters) takes approximately 2 hours from Moshi and longer from Arusha. In combination with the northern circuit it is less used and hence more pristine. One may get lucky and spot large herds of antelopes, buffalo and maybe even elephants.
Upon arrival at KIA we are transferred to Planet Airport Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast our climb continues towards Lava Tower Hut, but soon we branch off towards Shark Tooth and Moir Hut (4250m) just below the Lent Group. The hike inclusive of a lunch break takes about 6 hours. The route offers excellent views over the Shira Plateau and the Arrow Glacier above. Just after Moir Hut the plains of Amboseli appear and on a clear day, one might see as far as Mt. Kenya, 300km away. Dinner and overnight stay will once again be in tents at a fly camp.

After breakfast we continue our hike along the northern circuit route with the northern ice fields simmering above us. Soon we have left the Lent Group behind us and the Mawenzi, the second oldest of the 3 Kilimanjaro calderas appears. The 7-hour walk takes us past the only water source along the route, the Bofu camp, where we stop for lunch then proceed to the 3rd caves at 3900m. Dinner and overnight stay will be in tents at a fly camp.

Today we have an 8km hike before us. Due to the altitude, it takes us 4 to 5 hours. The views are spectacular as we walk through the rocky moonlike landscapes. This path leads to the School Hut (4750m) which is our base for the summit ascend. In the afternoon, we relax and watch the cloud formation below us. An early dinner and sleep at sunset is necessary in preparation for the next day’s early and challenging program.

After a short night and a hot drink, the final ascend starts at about 1.30am. The path gets gradually steeper finally taking us to the Gillman’s point (5685m) where we can watch the sunrise over the Mawenzi Peaks and the magnificent northern ice fields. After a short break, we now proceed along the crater rim to the Uhuru Peak (5895m) reaching there at about 9.00am. After a summit photo, we start our descend through the Stella Point to the Barafu Hut where a few crew members, who have crossed via the Kibo Saddle, have prepared a hot lunch. A final 2 hours descend takes us to Millennium for overnight in tents.

At breakfast we share our summit experiences once more as we overlook the Kibo towering above us. At 8.00 am we start our final descend (4 to 5 hours) to Mweka gate (1400m).
