The Rongai route ascends Kilimanjaro from the north side of the mountain, along the border between Tanzania and Kenya. Besides being the shortest route to the Kibo summit it retains some sense of pristine wilderness. Due to less rainfall on the northern side the vegetation is less lush enabling you to view your destination, the Kibo summit, every day right from the start of your hike.
We check into Kibo Slopes Garden Resort, Loitokitok for packing of mountain gear, dinner & overnight. We also a detailed briefing about the hiking adventure ahead of us. We have time to ask questions and get re-assured about the undertaking.

The climb takes about 6 hours with a lunch break at the 2nd Caves, a scenic spot at 3300m. Overnight will again be in a fly camp.

Usually it is not crowded & provides a good shelter to rest before next day’s challenge.

After a short night and a hot drink, the final ascend starts at about 1.30am. After a short break, we proceed along the crater rim to the Uhuru Peak (5895m) reaching there at about 9.00am. After our summit photo session, we descend to Kibo Hut for lunch before another 3 hours descend to Horombo (3720m) where we spend the night in a fly camp.
