Ascending up Mt Elgon along the Piswa Trail is a long and gentle route. Starting at Kapkwata, the trek passes through bamboo, heath and moorland vegetation. On the way to the peak, the scenic route allows you to explore the hot springs and a variety of birdlife.
Upon arrival at Entebbe airport a representative from Kibo Slopes will be waiting for us. A brief introduction and after drive via Kampala city to Jinja, a town at the shores of Lake Victoria. On the way we pass through the Sezibwa Fall and Mabira Forest where we can have an optional lunch. In the late afternoon we arrive at the picturesque town of Jinja on the shores of lake Victoria. Dinner and Overnight will be at the 2 Friends Guest House.

Today we visit the source of the Nile and Itanda and Bujagali falls. The town’s scenic spot attracts visitors for kayaking, water rafting, quad biking and as well as bungee jumping or simply to marvel at the extraordinary scenery. We arrive for a late lunch at another scenic spot on Mt. Elgon - the Sipi Falls. Dinner and the overnight stay will be at the Sipi Falls River Lodge.

After breakfast, we transfer to Kapkwata at 2,190 meters, from where we start our hike, following the Kapkwata Trail. We meet the crew at the trail head and after a brief introduction we embark on our 4 hour climb to Piswa Camp at 2850m. The scenic trail runs through the bamboo, heath and moorland. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Piswa Hut fly camp.

Today we hike up to the rim of the caldera through beautiful columns of the most rare and endemic plant species like the giant Lobelia Elgon-ensis and the wild Everlasting Flowers. We pass the hot springs and Suam Gorge before descending to the Hunters Cave Camp at 3850 meters. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Hunters Cave fly camp.

After some hot coffee and breakfast, we leave at 8am for a further 650m. climb to the caldera ridge (4.000m.) The landscape on this side of the mountain is simply stunning: A combination of moorlands, steep rocks and more Senecio trees. On the horizon we can see Koitoboss peak that demarcate the border between Kenya and Uganda. After a gradual descent, a walk through a swamp and some rocky passage along the Simu Gorge, we reach Mude Basecamp around 4pm for dinner and Overnight in tents.

After breakfast we hike to the summit at 4321m, the Wagagai Peak is the second highest in Uganda after the Rwenzori Mountain with Margherita peak at (5,109m). The climb is not very steep therefore the peak can be reached after about 3 hours. The top has magnificent views of the crater and across the border in Kenya. We shall have a lunch stop on the way after the peak at Jackson Pool before we descend back to Mude camp.

After an early breakfast we take a long, steep and very slippery way downhill passing the ‘wall of death’, at a distance with the view of the beautiful terraced hills surrounding the mountain. Walking through villages and local farms to the park visitor’s reception centre. And then commence drive to Mbale town. Dine and overnight Mount Elgon Hotel & Spa.

After breakfast we drive to Kampala via Tororo and Jinja marking the end of our trip.
