After breakfast we take off with a helicopter towards North. Out of the hilly region of Samburu, fly northwest to the Great Rift Valley. What an experience to experience Kenya from above! Before we go to Lake Turkana, we make stopovers. Particularly impressive is the stop in the Suguta Valley: the desert landscape is characterized by lava fields and volcanic cones here. Once at the huge Turkana sea, it is time for a picnic lunch on the beach - to the horizon, the water surface extends to a length of 250km and almost 50km wide. The lake is surrounded by volcanoes, the landscape is very barren and impressive. There are more than 60 species of fish in the lake and the Turkana people live from fishing. The three national parks on Lake Turkana are since 1997 a World Heritage Site. Particularly interesting about Turkana is from a paleontological point of view, since remains were found here proving that there was already human life here 2 million years ago.
Today's destination is to an exceptional and very small lodge south of Lake Turkana, built with incredible attention to detail on the slopes of Mount Nyiru, the Desert Rose Lodge. Enjoy this truly unique place to the full!
