This day excursion takes you to the rim of a strato volcano ( 2778m) right in the center of the Rift Valley. The hike up to the crater rim is bit challenging but circumventing of the caldera is a gentle walk with impressive views over the plains below and the evergreen caldera floor.
We are picked up at 6.00 am from our hotel in Nairobi and drive through the highlands of Limuru to the base of Mt. Longonot (2150m). As soon as we start the descend to the Rift Valley floor, Mt. Longonot appears. The 70km drive takes about 2 hours.
At the gate we meet our guide and after introduction we start our 3km steep ascend. It can take anything between 1 to 2 hours depending on the fitness level. This is followed by a 7 km gentle hike circumnavigating the caldera which may take 2 to 3hours. We are back at the base and drive for a late lunch to the Fisherman’s camp. We can opt for boat ride on Lake Naivasha. By latest 5.00pm we return to Nairobi.
