Loiyangalani means “a place of many trees” in the native Samburu tongue and is home to the El Molo, an almost extinct community in the Northern Kenya region also considered as the Cradle of Mankind The 11th edition of Lake Turkana Cultural Festival is scheduled to take place on 5th to 7th December, 2019, in Loiyangalani is one of the most memorable events in Kenya’s tourist calendar. Besides celebrating and helping preserve the cultures of the El Molo, Samburu, Gabbra, Rendile, Watta, Dasannach, Pokot and the Turkana, the festival also focuses on the economic development of the region and participating communities. Amazing display and presentation of cultural dances and traditions are just but a few awesome experiences and reasons you shouldn’t miss this year’s edition. Also get a chance to visit the Lake Turkana, also known as Jade Sea because of its blue-green color, and regarded as world’s biggest desert lake. We visit Samburu Game reserve on our way back to Nairobi for game viewing activities; here we spend a night at the Samburu Game Lodge. The following morning at leisure we drive back to Nairobi with a lunch stop on the way.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: 04-12-19:Departure from Nairobi
Early morning departure at 5.30am from Nairobi city with an optional stop on the way for lunch, arriving Loiyangalani in the evening. Set up camp for overnight at Palm shade Hotel grounds

Meal plan: dinner. (Breakfast and lunch own arrangement)

Day 2 & 3: 05-12-19 & 06-12-19: Loiyangalani festival
The next 2 days will be spent with the local communities exhibiting their culture and you will get a chance to interact with them as well as learn about their culture. We may also have optional activities of a visit to rock paintings, boat ride or a Sundowner on the lake shores. Overnight in Tents

Meal plan: Breakfast & dinner (Lunch own arrangements)

Day 4: 07-12-19: Drive to Samburu for lunch, afternoon game drives
Early morning breakfast, break camp and depart for Samburu, Arrive in time for lunch at Samburu Game Lodge. After lunch, we venture out for game drives which will proceed until sunset when we return for dinner and overnight at the Samburu Lodge.

Day 5:08-12-19 Early morning game drives, lunch on the way and return to Nairobi
Early morning game drive at Samburu Reserve from 6.00am to 8.00am. We return to the Lodge for breakfast and then depart for Nairobi with lunch on the way to arrive in the evening.
