This safari combines a game viewing experience in Akagera National Park which hosts over 500 bird species including the African fish Eagle, Black-headed Weaver, Lilac-breasted Roller and wildlife like elephants, buffalos, hippos, lions just to mention a few and chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest.

Day 1 Arrival

Upon arrival, we will be picked from the airport by a Kibo Slopes representative and transferred to the hotel for check in as we prepare for the safari ahead. Dinner and Overnight stay at Scheba Hotel.

Day 2 Drive to Akagera, short game drive and sunset boat trip

After breakfast, at 8.00 am our driver- guide will pick us from the hotel in Kigali for a drive to Akagera National park, with an optional stop-over for coffee at the Imigongo Arts Centre in Kayonza arriving in time for lunch. After lunch we go for an afternoon game drive in the Southern section of the park then a one-hour sunset boat trip led by an experienced guide, who’ll take us out across the lake, to wander along the forest-fringed shores in the hope of spotting some of the 500 bird species identified in Akagera national park and then drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Full game drive – Akagera National Park

After leisurely enjoying our breakfast, we start our full game drive in an open roofed vehicle with a visit to the Northern area of the park where a lot of wildlife concentrates. We will have an opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife and a number of bird species over 500 including the African fish Eagle, Black-headed Weaver, Lilac-breasted Roller, African Jacana etc.   Wildlife includes elephants, buffalos, hippos, lions, Masai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Butchel’s zebra, topi, bush baby, leopard and bushbuck. We then leave the park through the North gate by about 3.00 to 4 .00 pm and drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 Drive to Nyanza with visits of King’s Palace

We enjoy a leisurely breakfast then we drive heading to the Western province. On the way we visit King’s Palace museum, a replica of the ancient king’s house and learn more about Rwandan Kingdom life. The visit will offer us a window into Rwanda's pre-colonial past. Today the museum is an impressive site surrounded by the long horned cows that were traditionally associated by the Rwandan monarchy.

Day 5 Ethnographic museum and canopy walk

After breakfast we drive to Rwanda National Museum also known as Ethnographic museum – this is a gift from Belgium’s King Badouin in the late 1980s housing one of Africa’s finest ethnographic collections with seven galleries displaying historical, ethnographic, artistic and archaeological artefacts accompanied by visual aides, giving visitors a rich insight into the Rwandan culture. We have our lunch at Ibis and then we proceed to Nyungwe for a 3 p.m. canopy visit. The canopy walk is a 70 meters suspended metallic bridge that will give us a great overview of Nyungwe forest. We might spot one or two more primates in the forest as we take a walk on this bridge.  After the visit we check in at the lodge and have our dinner and overnight stay

Day 6 Chimpanzee tracking and Gisakura tea plantation walk

We wake up as early as 4: 30 a.m. for breakfast and then report to the Nyungwe park office in Gisakura at 5 a.m. to meet the park guides for a briefing before driving to the starting point of the trek. The tracking can take 2 to 5 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees, where we are allowed to spend 1 hour with them. Lunch at Top Hill View hotel.

After lunch we enjoy a restful afternoon in the lodge as we reminisce our beautiful encounter of the Chimps.  Dinner and overnight stay at Top Hill View Lodge.

Day 7 Drive back to Kigali

After a relaxed breakfast we drive back to Kigali, with optional stop for lunch on the way then transfer to airport for departure.
