The tour is a good introduction to the arid lands, wildlife and people in Northern Kenya. In Samburu Game Reserve we find besides elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopard the rare and the endemic five like the Beysa Orix, the Grevy Zebra, the Somali Ostrich, the Reticulated Giraffe and the Gerenuk. On the way we meet different pastoralist communities like the Samburu, the Rendille and the Gabra people as well as the Turkana. On the lake shore of Lake Turkana, we meet the crocodile hunting tribe of the Elmolo, counting not more than 500 people. The tour ends at Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria where we relax at Tumbili Cliff a beautiful set Lodge on the shores of Lake Baringo.
Today we arrive in Nairobi and are met by our driver guide at the airport. After a brief introduction we are transferred to Heron Court Hotel, close to the City center. We booked on bed and breakfast.

Today after breakfast, we start our adventure as we head up North towards Samburu. We arrive at the lodge just in time for lunch. After lunch and a short rest, we proceed for an early afternoon game drive at the Samburu National Reserve. This park is renowned for its variety of wildlife species which have adapted amazingly well to the harsh and hot climate of the area. The unique species include the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx, and the Somali Ostrich. Dinner and the overnight stay will be at Samburu Simba Lodge.

After breakfast we embark on another day of game drives. We only return to the lodge for lunch. At this time the temperatures hit their peak and the animals look for shade under the trees. Samburu National Reserve covers 104 square kilometers and the Ololokwe Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop towards the north. Samburu is also home to elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards. Dinner and overnight stay will be once again at Samburu Simba Lodge.

Today after some breakfast we head north towards Loiyangalani which is located
on the south eastern shores of Lake Turkana. We pass through Ngurunit and the Ndotto Mountain range, the Homeland of the Rendille tribe. The 360 km drive takes us past Samburu and Turkana Homesteads as well as Kenya’s largest windmill park to Palm Shade Hotel under the shade of the Doumo Palms. Dinner and Overnight will be at the Hotel.

Today we explore Loiyangalani. We have a chance to visit and learn about the traditional lifestyles of the El Molo Village which has the smallest tribe in Kenya. They are mainly fishermen and hunt crocodiles. A myth in the community says that the crocodile recognizes the hunters from far and they rather hide than attack. The visit ends with a boat ride to their shrine on an adjacent island. After lunch later in the afternoon we visit the rock paintings on the slopes of Mt. Kulal and as the sun sets we visit a Turkana village where we are entertained by a traditional dance. Dinner and overnight will be again at the Palm Shade Hotel.

After breakfast we set off down south to Maralal - the capital city of Samburu county. The drive takes us back first to South Horr. The drive takes us through an untamed but scenic country side with hills and valleys. Along the we stop for photos and tea in Baragoi, a small trading center along the way. As we climb the slopes of the Loroghi Plateau to almost 2000m we get spectacular views over the Rift valley. The 240 km drive take us about 7 hours. We arrive in the late afternoon at the Ngari Hill Eco Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Today after breakfast, we do a game drive in the vast Mugie Ranch located 50km down south at the boundary between Samburu and Laikipia county. The ranch is one of the numerous conservations projects which mitigate the human wildlife conflict and try to protect Kenya’s rich wildlife heritage. On our game drive we find Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, (which are endemic to the area), big cats, buffalo, elephants, reticulated giraffe, storks, and birds of prey, which are just a few of the wonderful creatures that roam Mugie’s plains and forests. After a lunch break we continue for another 100km, descending the escarpment to the rift valley. The views over Lake Baringo and Bogoria are fantastic. In the late afternoon we arrive at Tumbili Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Today after breakfast we do a boat ride on Lake Baringo. We find fisherman in their local handmade balsa boats. Numerous water birds call the lake their home. We also find hippos and crocodiles. Our boats man attracts the Fish Eagles with a bait of small fish. For lunch we drive to Bogoria Spa and do game drive in Lake Bogoria Game Reserve. Here thousands of flamingoes turn the shallow lake pink, Hot springs and geysers remind us of the volcanic activities in the Riftvalley. On the shores we find a variety of plains game. For dinner and overnight we return to Tumbili Cliff in the late afternoon.
