Overview

This immersive journey showcases the incredible diversity of Tanzania, combining world-class wildlife, rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and idyllic Indian Ocean beaches. We begin in Northern Tanzania with the elephant-rich plains of Tarangire and the ancient Kondoa Rock Art Sites before exploring the vineyards of Dodoma. Our adventure continues through the wild landscapes of Ruaha, Mikumi and Nyerere National Parks before concluding with the historic charm of Stone Town and the white-sand beaches of Zanzibar’s east coast.

Day 1 Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we will be met by our guide and transferred to Kibo Palace Hotel in Arusha. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing us to relax before beginning our Tanzanian adventure.

Day 2 Drive to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we drive southwest towards Tarangire National Park, stopping for lunch at Sangaiwe Mbuyu Tented Lodge before checking in. In the afternoon, we head into Tarangire for our first game drive. The park is famous for its ancient baobab trees, vast elephant herds and the Tarangire River, which attracts an abundance of wildlife throughout the dry season. We may encounter lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest and numerous antelope species.

Day 3 Exploring Tarangire National Park

Today we spend a full day exploring Tarangire with packed lunches, giving us plenty of time to discover its diverse landscapes of acacia woodland, seasonal swamps and open grasslands.The park is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 500 recorded bird species, while its healthy predator population offers excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards and cheetahs.

Day 4 Drive to Kondoa, visit rock paintings, proceed to Dodoma

After breakfast, we depart with packed lunches and travel to the Kondoa Rock Art Sites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing some of East Africa's finest prehistoric rock paintings. Created thousands of years ago, these remarkable artworks provide a fascinating insight into the lives of early hunter-gatherer communities. After our visit, we continue to Tanzania's capital, Dodoma, arriving at Domiya Estate in the evening.

Day 5 Discovering Dodoma's Wine Country

Today we explore Tanzania's growing wine industry. After breakfast, we visit local vineyards and learn about the region's irrigation systems that support grape cultivation in this semi-arid landscape. Following lunch, we tour Alko Vintages Winery, where we gain insight into the winemaking process and enjoy a tasting before returning to Domiya Estate for dinner.

Day 6 Drive to Ruaha National Park

After an early breakfast, we journey south through Tanzania's scenic central highlands to Iringa, where we stop for lunch before continuing to Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is Tanzania's largest national park and is celebrated for its rugged beauty, ancient baobab trees, thriving predator populations and large elephant herds.

Day 7 Ruaha National Park game drives

Today is dedicated to exploring the spectacular wilderness of Ruaha National Park. The park supports large prides of lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, greater kudu, sable antelope and more than 570 bird species. Our full-day game drive allows us to explore its diverse habitats while enjoying a picnic lunch in the bush.

Day 8 Drive to Mikumi National Park

After breakfast, we depart with packed lunches for the drive to Mikumi National Park. Passing through picturesque countryside and rural villages, we arrive at Old Mikumi Wildlife Lodge overlooking the park.

Driving Time: 6–7 hours

Day 9 Mikumi National Park game drives

We spend the day exploring Mikumi National Park, whose open plains are often compared to the Serengeti. The park is home to elephants, buffalo, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and numerous bird species. With packed lunches, we maximize our time in the park before returning to the lodge in the evening.

Day 10 Flight to Nyerere National Park

We enjoy one final morning game drive before returning for lunch. In the afternoon, we board our scheduled 2:15 p.m. flight to Mtemere Airstrip in Nyerere National Park. Upon arrival, we transfer to Selous Impala Camp, beautifully located on the banks of the Rufiji River.

Day 11 Nyerere National Park game drives and Rufiji boat safari

Today we explore the vast wilderness of Nyerere National Park on morning game drives. After lunch, we enjoy a memorable boat safari on the Rufiji River, one of the park's signature experiences, offering close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants and abundant birdlife from the water.

Day 12 Morning gamedrives, flight to Zanzibar

We enjoy one final morning game drive before lunch at camp. Later, we board our scheduled 3:10 p.m. flight to Zanzibar, where we are transferred to the historic Tembo House Hotel, perfectly located in the heart of Stone Town.

Day 13 Stone Town tour, transfer to East Coast Zanzibar

This morning we explore the winding streets of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in history, Swahili culture and Arab architecture. We visit historic landmarks, bustling markets and spice shops before driving across the island to the tranquil east coast. The remainder of the day is at leisure at Villa Bahati, overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

Driving Time: 1½ hours

Day 14 Zanzibar Beach Stay

Today is free to relax and enjoy Zanzibar's beautiful white-sand beaches. Optional activities include snorkelling, diving, kayaking, spice tours or simply unwinding by the ocean.

Day 15 Zanzibar Beach Stay

Enjoy another leisurely day at Villa Bahati. Take in the peaceful surroundings, swim in the warm Indian Ocean or explore the local coastline at your own pace.

Day 16 Transfer for international departure

After breakfast, we enjoy some free time before transferring to Zanzibar International Airport for our onward flight, bringing our unforgettable Tanzanian adventure to a close.
