Overview
This 16 km day hike (both ways) from 1800 m to 2700 m takes us through a moss overgrown mystic rainforest. Strange animal noises can be heard all over with some luck might be able to spot a few monkeys, hiding in the lush forest.
Tour Plan
We are picked up early in the morning at 6.00am from our hotel in Moshi or Arusha and proceed to Marangu Park gate ( 1800m) for registration. Here we meet our guide and porter. After briefing we proceed with our 4 hours hike to Mandara Hut. Once we’ve arrived at Mandara hut, we have some time to rest and enjoy our lunch with a view. Once we have some renewed energy we can take a short detour to the Maundi Crater, offering stunning views on Mawenzi peak and Kibo peak. On clear days, we also have a chance to glance into the neighboring country of Kenya. At latest 3.00pm it is time to head back to the Marangu Gate, from where our driver is waiting to take us back to our hotel.
