4x - Camp
Climbers looking for an off the beaten tracks experience will enjoy ascending Mt Kenya on this route. With accommodations available on fly camps only, trekkers get a unique wilderness experience. The challenging route comes with breathtaking views of the landscape as it is the most scenic route.
Today we leave Nairobi at 7.30 am and drive via Chogoria to the Meru Mt. Kenya Bandas at 3000m. The guide and mountain crew has already arrived and prepared a lunch which we take while we receive a briefing from the guide. After lunch, we start our hike through a scenic landscape with forest patches and open plains, home to varied species of wildlife. Today’s destination is the Road Head Camp at 3400 m. The camp has already been set up by our crew and after dinner we retire early to our tents.

After breakfast a hike along a ridge, with spectacular views of Lake Michaelson in the Gorge Valley below takes us close to the Hall Tarns at 4000m. Here we take a lunch break lunch overlooking the Lake with a spectacular view, and then continue on a gentle traverse and descend 200 meters to Lake Michaelson camp site. We can rest in the afternoon or wonder around the Lake taking some photos before retiring at the camp for dinner and overnight.

Today’s hike is rather short. We hike along the Gorge Valley towards Point Lenana. The hike gets gradually steeper and finally we ascend a ridge and get to the Simba Tarn (4630m), our camp site for the night at the base of Point Lenana. We enjoy our dinner while marveling the spectacular views of Nelion and Batian, the main peaks of Mt.Kenya and Point Lenana our challenge for tomorrow.

After an early morning breakfast at 4.00am, the hike takes us via a steep screed to the Austrian Hut at 4790m. Here we have a short break with a sip of hot tea and biscuits, before the final challenge on Point Lenana (4895m) via Lewis Glacier. After watching the Sunrise, and taking our summit photos, we descend on the northern side via Simba Cole to the Shiptons Camp (4200m) where lunch will be taken. Thereafter we continue down on the Sirimon route to the Old Moses Camp at 3400m. After dinner we will have a well-deserved rest after a very strenuous, but eventful day.

Our final descend takes us to Sirimon Gate. Here we bid the crew farewell and are met by our driver. At the trout tree restaurant, we stop for lunch before proceeding back to Nairobi
