Overview

This tour combines wildlife with hikes on unique forest trails which are home to Chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas. Besides the hikes there are cruises on lakes and beach holidays on the sandy beaches of Sesse island on Lake Victoria.

Day 1 Arrival Entebbe

Upon arrival we are received by a Kibo Slopes representative and then transferred to our hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2 Drive to Fort Portal and Crater Lake Hike

We have an early breakfast and drive west to Fort Port on the Slopes of Mt. Ruwenzori.  The drive takes us past small scale farms to the tea plantations around Fort Portal. We arrive there for lunch and embark in the afternoon on a Crater lake hike. Tour includes a visit to the crater lakes and lava pipe (called "Mwitampungu" which means "a place that kills eagles") which is a volcanic hole that automatically sucks birds in flight and later releases them in an upward curve. We will also visit the local communities and several scenic viewpoints.  For dinner and overnight we return to our Lodge.

Day 3 Queen Elisabeth National Park

Today after breakfast we drive along the Ruwenzori Slopes to Mweya Safari Lodge for lunch with game viewing en-route. We may find besides plenty of plains game like Ugandan Kobs, Elephants and Lions. After a lunch overlooking the Kazinga Channel we undertake boat tour on the channel which connects lake Gorge with lake Edward. On the shore we watch Elephants, Buffaloes, zebras and other game quenching their thirst while in the waters crocodiles and Hippos are found.  Plenty of water birds are accompanying us on our 2-hour tour.  In the late afternoon we drive to Enganzi game Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge

Kyambura gorge is home to over 80 chimpanzees.  Besides the Chimps the area with its underground forest and rivers are a great attraction their own.  We start our trekking at 8.00 am with rangers and in a group of 4 people. On our 3 to 4-hour trek to find the Chimps we might also find other primates such as colobus monkeys, baboons, red tailed monkeys and others. The birdlife consists of Turacos, Hornbills, Bee Eaters, and Kingfishers just to name a view. After our trekking we return to the lodge for lunch check out and drive all the way to Kisoro at the far South Eastern corner of Uganda in the backdrop of the Virunga Mountains. Dinner and Overnight will be at the Travellers rest House in Kisoro.

Day 5 Drive to Kisoro

After an early morning tea, we embark on another game drive and return for a late lunch to the lodge.  With packed lunch we check out and drive to Kisoro in the far south eastern corner of Uganda with the spectacular backdrop of the Virunga Volcanos. We arrive in the late afternoon at the Travellers Rest Hotel and relax as the sun sets over the volcanoes Sabiniyo, Mgahinga and Muvabura on the border to Rwanda and Congo.

Day 6 Sabiyino Hike

After breakfast an early breakfast we pack our hiking gear and head for The Mgahinga National Park headquarters for a briefing about our hike. A 4 to 5 hours’ hike takes us through a thick vegetation zone inhabited by the beautiful Rwenzori Turacos, elephants, buffaloes and mountain gorillas to the summit at 3645 at the border of 3 countries Uganda – Rwanda and Congo. The views from here are spectacular and reach as for as Lake Kivu, Lake Bunyoni and the Rwenzori Ranges as well as the Congo plains. The descend is not easy and may take another 4 hours. After arriving at the base we drive for another hour to the Gorilla Valley Lodge in the Rushaga area of Bwindi Forest for a well- deserved dinner and overnight.

Day 7 Bwindi Forest Hike

A 50 min drive after breakfast takes us for briefing to Nkuringo Wildlife offices.  With armed rangers we embark on a 14 km hike through the Bwindi Forest, the oldest Forest in Uganda and home besides the Mountain Gorillas, to 10 species of primates, 120 mammals and 350 bird species. The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours and ends in Buhoma.  Our driver has meanwhile gone round the forest and picks us up to takes us for Dinner and overnight to Buhoma Haven Lodge.

Day 8 Day Mountain Gorilla Tracking

After breakfast, we proceed to the visitor’s reception at Bwindi Park for a briefing and be separated into groups based on which Gorilla trekking family we will be tracking. Then the guide will lead us through the gorilla paths in the thick Bwindi Impenetrable rain forests searching for the giant mountain Gorillas. The trek takes 2-5 hours depending on where we find the Mountain Gorillas and once they are found, we spend an hour observing these beautiful primates as they feed, play around, groom and communicate among themselves. For lunch we return to the Haven Lodge check out and drive to another marvel, Lake Bunyoni for dinner and overnight at the Arcadia Lodge.

Day 9 Boat tour on Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi is home to over 29 Islands. On our 3 boat tour, we will bet to explore some Lake Bunyonyi with a depth of 900m, is the deepest lake in Uganda, 2nd deepest in Africa and 3rd deepest in the World. We will have a professional guide to take us around on a motorized traditional wooden boat and will give us full information about lake Bunyonyi and the Island we are visiting. For lunch we return to Arcadia Lodge and drive in the afternoon to Mbarara for dinner and overnight at the Igongo Cultural Center.

Day 10, 11 Sesse Island

A 3 hours’ drive takes us to Bukakata on the shores of Lake Victoria.  We cross on a ferry together with our vehicle to the Sesesse Islands. These islands are 84 altogether and this collection of islands has sandy beaches, and palms, exotic plants, flowers and trees, and of course friendly people. We have chosen Kalangala Beach for our Beach Holidays to wind down from the challenging so rewarding past days. We are booked on half board and can choose from the numerous activities which include the hotel overs or simply relax at the swimming pool and take an evening stroll along the sandy beaches.

Day 12 Return to Entebbe for departure

Today after an early breakfast we are transferred to the ferry terminal for Entebbe. We arrive in Nakiwoga at around noon. Depending on our departure flight we can opt for a lunch, visit the botanical garden or simply relax at a hotel before transferring to the airport for departure.
