Approaching Mt Kenya from the North East, Sirimon route is the fastest, shortest and the gentlest ascending route to the peak. The trek begins through the forest and progresses to moorland and giant heather higher up the slopes.
We leave Nairobi at 6.30 am and drive through Nanyuki town to the Sirimon Park gate (2660m). Although we could continue driving, we opt to walk to Old Moses Camp ( 3300m) for better acclimatization. The 9km hike takes about 4 hours and we arrive at the camp in the late afternoon. The crew has already prepared dinner and we retire early to our bunkbeds in the dormitories.

Today we leave the camp at 8.30am and continue our hike through the moorland (Teleki Valley) characterized by many varieties of Seneca and Lobelia to Shipton’s Camp (4200m). Lunch will be taken on the way. The 14km hike takes about 6 hours. Overnight will be at the Shiptons Camp just below the 3 majestic peaks Batian, Nelion and Lenana.

After an early morning breakfast at 4.00am, the trek leads via a steep screed to the Simba Cole. Here we take a short rest before the final ascend of point Lenana (4895m) through a steep and rather rocky terrain. We may even have to use the hands to support our legs. At sunrise we have made it. The rising sun tosses the Nelion and Bation in a golden light while the view over the plains below are spectacular. After the summit photos, we return to Shiptons Camp for lunch and continue our descend to Old Moses where our cars are waiting to take us to Nairobi. We arrive Nairobi in the late evening.
