This a 12 km day hike from 2050m to 3300m that takes us through different vegetation zones of Mt Kilimanjaro. We start in the Forest and enter the heather zone and finally end up in the moorland. All along we have the towering ice fields of Kilimanjaro above us.
We meet at the Kibo Slopes Garden Resort at 7.30am in the morning. After introduction and briefing from our guide we drive for 16km to Tarakea Border post for clearing and on to the Nalemoru gate at 2050 m.
We register and start our walk through the natural forest along the Naromoru River. We gradually gain altitude and after a 3 hour / 8km we reach the Sekimba Camp from where we can overlook the Kenyan plains below us while the Snow Covered Kibo Peak is towering above us.
The very fit ones we can add another 1 to 1.5 hour walk which ends at the second cave at 3300m and have their lunch there.
After the lunch we descend to the gate where our driver is waiting to take us back to the Garden Resort in Loitokitok.
