A hike through the Mabira Forest, a rainforest area covering about 300 kms reveals many different species of plants as well endangered wildlife species like the primate Lophocebus Ugandae. It has been protected as Mabira Forest Reserve since 1932. It is home for many endangered species like the endemic Mangabey. The program also includes the Speke monument in Jinja and the source of the Nile.
We are picked up from our hotel in Entebbe or Kampala at 7:30am and head to Sezibwa Falls on Jinja road. We stop here for to take some photos and stretch the legs then hike for 30 minutes to the top of the falls.
Returning to bottom we continue our drive to Mabira Forest where we undertake a guided 12 km nature walk. Here we find bird species like the Nahan’s Francolin and Papyrus Gonolek. The forest is also home to blue duikers, fruit bats, baboons, Bush pigs, the Tree Hyrax, Red Tailed Monkeys, Squirrels, Bushbuck, Grey Cheeked Mangabey and Bush Babies. We return to the Rain Forest Lodge for lunch and drive in the afternoon to Jinja. A 1-hour boat ride take us to the Speke Monument and the source of the Nile. We can opt for tea break before returning to our Hotel in Entebbe or Kampala.
