The Semien Mountains are a real paradise for hikers. The rugged landscape is home to numerous endemic wildlife species such as the gelada baboons, the mountain Ibex and the Ethiopian wolf besides lots of afro alpine mountain plants. From the highlands, the journey continues to the tranquil shores of Lake Tana, the source of the legendary Blue Nile. Here we explore historic monastery islands by boat, discover Ethiopia’s ancient Christian heritage, and enjoy the relaxed lakeside atmosphere of Bahir Dar.
We arrive at Bole airport and are met by a representative of Kibo Slopes and transferred to Friendship Hotel for a n optional dinner and Overnight. After checking in we receive a short briefing.

After breakfast we embark on the city tour through the Addis Abeba which means ‘New Flower’. We drive to the Entoto mountain, the first residence of the King Menelik when he moved the capital of Shewa from Ankober to Entoto in 1881. This visit is followed by a visit to Orthodox Cathedral. After lunch we visit the National Museum which contains many precious local archaeological finds such as the fossilized remains of early hominids, the most famous of which is "Lucy," the partial skeleton of a specimen of Australopithecus afarensis. After lunch we pay a visit to the Ethnological Museum, the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie and finally drive to Merkato, arguably the largest open- air market in East Africa. Dinner and overnight will be at the Friendship Hotel.

Today morning we fly to Gondar. We are met on arrival by our driver/guide and embark on a city tour and visit the 17th century royal palaces and the old standing mural painting church of Debre Birhan Selassie. The city's unique imperial precinct contains a dozen castles and fortress-like battlements built by various Emperors during the 236-year period of the Gondarian Empire. By European standards, the Gondar castles may not be elaborate, but their very presence in Africa makes them a rare and imposing sight. We have a lunch at the city square and continue our tour at the beautifully painted Debre Birhan Selassie church. The Debre Birhan Selassie Church in Gondar town is famous for its "winged angel faces "that decorate the entire ceiling. Dinner and Overnight will be at the Gondar Hills Hotel

Today, after breakfast and drive via Debark to the Simien Mountain National Park. On the way stop at some view point to marvel at the rugged mountain scenery. In Debark we meet our guide and drive to the Simien Mountain Lodge. From here we take a leisurely 3-hour hike to Sankaber Camp. We are welcomed by our crew for the next few days who have already pitched tents. Dinner and overnight will be at a fly camp.

After a breakfast at sunrise we pack our day bags and start our 6-hour hike through the rugged terrain of the Simien mountains. We trekked along the escarpment, with a stop at Jinbar Waterfall, which is brilliant sight, and proceed with a slow climb up after the waterfall to the main road and descend to a river for lunch. From there it is a steady uphill climb to the Geech Camp. On the way we will find Gelada Baboons, Ibex antilopes and with some luck an Ethiopian Wolf

Activities: 6 to 7 hour Hike, 15 km
Today we ascend, a headland at the edge of a ridge, Imet Gogo, that stands close to 4000 metres with unbelievable 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains. We can see west, back towards Sunbaker and Geech, and south-east along a large gorge towards tomorrow’s destination. The trail continues through Giant Erica woodlands before emerging on the moorland at Inatye, the second highest peak in the western part of the park. We descend to 3620 m to spend the night at Chenek camp which is often the best spot to see both Ethiopian Wolves and Walia Ibex.

Mount Bawhit is Ethiopia’s third highest peak, standing at an impressive 4430 meter. Our route to Mount Bwahit follows footpaths off the road alongside a stream that trickles down the hill. This is quite a steep walk, but we can take regular breaks at great view points en route. This is also our best chance to see Walia Ibex. At the summit, are rewarded with phenomenal views across the entire Simiens range.
After completing our hike, we descend and meet our vehicle for the journey toward Lake Tana. En route we stop for lunch at the beautiful Simien Mountain Lodge, Africa’s highest lodge, where we can relax and enjoy the sweeping mountain views one last time. In the afternoon we continue our scenic drive through rural landscapes and traditional villages until we reach the lakeside town of Gorgora. Dinner and overnight are at Gorgora Eco Resort on a half-board basis.

After breakfast we head to the shores of Lake Tana, Ethiopia’s largest lake and the source of the legendary Blue Nile. Today we enjoy a scenic boat crossing across the calm waters of the lake, which is dotted with historic monastery islands that have preserved Ethiopia’s ancient Christian traditions for centuries.
During our boat excursion we visit one of the famous island monasteries, where beautifully painted churches, ancient manuscripts, and sacred relics offer fascinating insight into Ethiopia’s spiritual heritage. Surrounded by forested islands and tranquil waters, the journey across Lake Tana is both peaceful and culturally enriching.
Later we arrive near Bahir Dar and transfer to Kuriftu Resort & Spa Bahir Dar, a comfortable lakeside resort. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings.

This morning we set out to explore the source of the Blue Nile, where the river begins its remarkable journey from Lake Tana toward Sudan and Egypt. Standing at this historic location offers a fascinating perspective on one of Africa’s most important rivers and its significance to the region’s geography and history.
We take time to explore the area and enjoy the peaceful lakeside environment before returning to Bahir Dar for lunch. In the afternoon we return to Kuriftu Resort & Spa Bahir Dar, where we can relax and reflect on the experiences of the past days—from the dramatic Simien Mountains to the cultural treasures of Lake Tana. Dinner and overnight are again at the resort.

After breakfast we transfer to the airport for our flight back to Addis. Upon arrival we connect with our onward international flight, bringing our unforgettable journey through the Simien Mountains and Lake Tana region to an end.
